1920s Art Deco

A beautiful 1920s Art Deco dinner plate by Burleigh Ware in the charming “Evergreen” pattern. This elegant square plate features delicate hand-painted maidenhair fern motifs in soft greens, yellows, and orange, with a distinctive geometric checked border in green and black, and a subtle mint green band at the base.

The naturalistic fern design combined with the geometric border perfectly captures the spirit of 1920s decorative arts, blending organic motifs with modernist styling. The soft colour palette and delicate hand-painting showcase the quality craftsmanship Burleigh was renowned for.

Good vintage condition for its age (100+ years old). Some light surface wear and minor marks consistent with a century of gentle use. minor chips on the rim as shown, no cracks. Clear Burleigh Ware backstamp with beehive trademark visible.

Burgess & Leigh (trading as Burleigh) has been producing pottery in Stoke-on-Trent since 1851. During the Art Deco period of the 1920s-30s, they created distinctive hand-decorated wares that combined traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design. Their pieces are highly collectible, particularly those featuring the naturalistic patterns popular in the interwar years.

A lovely piece of British pottery history and a charming addition to any vintage collection!
