Unusually for Sheffield tool makers, W. Tyzack, Sons & Turner, Ltd. operated in two separate works simultaneously for over 55 years. The Abbeydale Works and the Little London Works. Unkown as makers of hand saws, circular saws, agricultural knives, machine parts, steel, files, chisels, twist drills, hammers, and plastering trowels.
In 1870 Thomas Turner, son of Tyzack's sister Ann, joined them, forming William Tyzack, Sons and Turner. Incorporated in 1906 under William's son Frederick Tyzack and the Tyzack family members continued to largely control it.
The firm was taken over by its rival W.A. Tyzack in 1987 and the works were demolished in 1988. The company was broken up and sold off in 1991.
This saw has a brass back, hardwood handle and two steel pins. It has been lightly cleaned and oiled with rawlinseed oil, to keep the original patina.
The handle does have previous signs of worm, but has been treated, just in case. Overall good condition, the teeth are complete and the saw has the usual aged related wear.
Beautiful addition to any tool box!
