The first Surform tools were inveted by a British company. With a patent for a the Surform tool blade obtained in 1949, in Australia, by Firth Cleveland Pty Ltd of Wolverhampton England. An affiliated UK company, Simmonds Aerocessories Ltd., were an early manufacturer of Surform tools, making three planes using this blade. Surform was first registered as a trademark in the UK, 25th September 1953.
A surform, also known as a surface-forming tool, used to shape material. They consists of a steel strip with holes punched out and the rim of each hole sharpened to form a cutting edge. The strip is typically, mounted in a carriage or handle. Surform planes are often described as a cross between a rasp and a plane.
Made from steel, with a hammered blue painted finish and with red plastic handle. This is Surform is complete and comes in the original box and with the original leaflet.
