JWilliam Marples was one of several ‘Marples’ in Sheffield manufacturing joiners tools in the 1840s. Know for their brass inlaid rosewood & ebony braces, boxwood spokeshaves, beech planes, gauges and squares. The company is in family hands and still based in Sheffield.
A very solid and substantial plane, in excellent condition. Doesn't appear to be made from Beech, possibly some other hardwood. Owners mark 'F.R.TAYLOR' in various places. End of blade marked Marples, Sheffield.
Has been lightly cleaned to keep the original patina.
Aged related wear.
