This beautiful decorative wall plate in a moorish design was made by the Johann Maresch factory in Germany between 1863 and 1944 and is believed to be made from "ironstone clay"

We have seen other examples of similar plates that have been dated to circa 1863 but can not confirm with certainty that this is the manafacturing date for this item.
However, this plate is in beautiful condition for its age with only one minor chip to its rim and very little ware to its coloured glaze. The back of the plate is very clean and is stamped with the renowned JM manufacturing stamp. It also has a string for hanging.
It never ceases to amaze us that something so old can still be in such excellent condition and for the short while that these precious artifacts are in our posession we like to think of ourselves as custodions of history.
